KFC Double Down's Ugly Truth
Thesis:
The food in the picture on the advertisements makes the sandwich look quiet delicious. The claims made in the KFC double down advertisement is that it represents a new, great and tasty meal, that will fill you up—lacking health and nutrition, information about regularly consuming the product will lead to obesity, and the truth behind their production.
Body Paragraph:
Although bacon is America’s favorite, and the double down sandwich looks incredibly delicious and mouthwatering in the advertisement, the question is, is it a healthy choice for fast food? This is because the number of obese people is increasingly alarming and it is not rocket science for us to know that obesity leads to an excess of health related issues. The major guilt for obesity is the consumption of huge quantities of junk food on a regular basis. So with a sandwich that seems like it has more than what any other sandwich offers it is an increasing concern to know whether it could cause some serious damage to your system. In Mary Stone and Simone French’s article, Food Advertising and Marketing Directed at Children and Adolescents in the US, it is certain that “the principle goal of food advertising and marketing aimed at children is to influence brand awareness, brand preference, brand loyalty, and food purchases among youth.” Since Advertising is strongly aimed at children it inevitably teaches them to always choose and consume the best product, the more we consume the happier we are. As mouthwatering as it may seem the Double Down is an unhealthy fast food choice.

This chicken "sandwich" I agree is very unhealthy and can lead to obesity. I like the quote you used it helps a lot for me to understand the target audience. I believe that KFC has a lot of fried food which i would guess that this chicken is fried causing it also to be unhealthy which can lead to obesity.
ReplyDeleteI found your topic of brand awareness interesting, it shines a new light on why people actually purchase the things they do. I do agree with your argument, a meal as high in fat and calories should have nutritional tables, to show the consumer what they are consumer. Your strategy of playing devils advocate works well. "As mouthwatering as it may seem the Double Down is an unhealthy fast food choice."
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the marketers aim their ad's towards children and that makes the children choose what they think is "the best product". Why can't they aim their advertisements towards adults? Is it because they know we will not fall for their tricks? I think it's wrong how they target the young generation, especially because they are helpless. The Young generation relies on the fast food industry because they are on the go, just like moms, they do not get time to stop and eat something healthy.
ReplyDeleteKFC double down is completely misleading. I agree that it is very unhealthy and will lead to obesity. I also believe that this ad is aimed at children since it will lead to obesity.
ReplyDeleteSo there are no buns on this "sandwich"? That's crazy! Two pieces of chicken with bacon in the middle... it just sounds ridiculously unhealthy. It's sad to see these types of foods marketed to our youth.
ReplyDeleteWile I agree that targeting children in advertisements in prevalent and wrong, I see nothing in it that seems to be indoctrinating children . However, I do agree that this ad indirectly promotes obesity by promoting food that is too big for the average human to consume.
ReplyDeleteAd does make me hungry, but I agree that even from the commercial it is obvious that it might fill you up, but it has quite poor nutritional value. Also I doubt that when meal is served at the restaurant it looks exactly the same as in the ad.
ReplyDeleteThis chicken sandwich from the look of it you know is unhealthy, definitely not something I will look forward eating and am glad you feel the same way. A sandwich with no buns is like a Kool-Aid with no sugar ughhhh nasty sorry KFC I like my sandwich with buns.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that "Since Advertising is strongly aimed at children it inevitably teaches them to always choose and consume the best product, the more we consume the happier we are." and I think this is wrong that they are molding children like that. I don't believe "The major guilt for obesity is the consumption of huge quantities of junk food on a regular basis." Because there are many different reasons why obesity is a problem. There is no one major guilt. Overall I believe that your paper is on the right track and the annotation fit in perfectly with your paragraph.
